Around the world, millions of people are emigrating to other countries to work - often giving up their identity, their roots, their freedom for a meager wage. This global labor migration is one of the biggest and most invisible problems of our time. We explore this topic using the example of Vietnamese emigrants in Taiwan and Germany. The times and experiences collide - young, hopeful people of today, as well as illegal immigrants or former GDR contract workers, have their say.
It is based on interviews and discussions with different people in both countries. Their very different stories tell about the global dimension of migration and intercultural problems but at the same time report on the complex history of a divided German state as well as Taiwan struggling for its own identity as an industrialized country.
The staging is to be realized as a choreographic arrangement or tour through a larger space or rooms, in order to give the audience the opportunity to experience it in their own movement.
"Brides&Cooks" is part 2 of a choreographic series on identity and plurality and will be realized in cooperation with German, Taiwanese and Vietnamese partners in 2020.
