"The piece Unsolved by Taiwanese choreographer Fang Yun Lo is a jewel. [...] In her autobiographical story she subtly mixes visual images with movement, sound and storytelling. History flows together in a clear, moving and personal document. [...] Movement, image, light, sound: each element takes its place in the installative labyrinth. The sheer effect does not dominate anywhere, and that is so fascinating about this performance. Unsolved tells us a whole epic, as universal as it is political, in a hyper-personal way."

Unsolved
Dance / Theatre, 60'

UNSOLVED is a performance piece by Fang Yun Lo in cooperation with the Hamburg based video artist Hanna Linn Ernst (Rimini Protokoll, among others), the Swiss musician Patrik Zosso, and the Taiwanese-German stage designer Cheng Ting Chen.
In UNSOLVED, Fang Yun Lo combines a partially autobiographical investigation of her own family history in Taiwan with current political questions: what is “Heimat”, what is a home, what language do we find for contradictory identities between different worlds, and what does a young generation think about the inherited conflicts that the parent generation has not been able to solve?
UNSOLVED with the actor Chih Wen Chung, a hip hop dancer from Taiwan, circles around the not always reliable memories that arose from a youth in the 1980s in Taiwan. The central setting is an abandoned family house that is present on stage as an exact replica model - a ghost house, a dusty projection screen for images of protection, love, youth, conflicts, historical events and unanswered questions.
In UNSOLVED, dance, film, music and live camera form a dense artistic exploration of one's own identity in all its complexity and fragility, which allows numerous, very personal approaches and points of discussion.

"Unsolved" is the first part of a three-part series dealing with the concepts of identity, home, heritage and tradition, both as an individual, personal experience and as a political category.
